Monday 1 July 2013 – Symbister to Lerwick

We hung around for a while waiting for the forecast drop in the wind and for favourable tide.  Chatted to Rob and Terry, an American couple in a 36 ft boat, Querida.  They seem to have cruised over most of the world during the last 20 years.
Eventually the water in the sound outside looked more inviting, so we departed with 2 reefs and made quite a quick passage to Lerwick.  Going to windward all the way and with a number of skerries to avoid required concentration.  The N entrance to Lerwick Harbour seemed narrow as we tacked in. Moored alongside a Dutch boat in the Small Boat Harbour.  The other mooring area, used by the bigger yachts, has been mostly taken over by a huge floating accommodation block for N Sea gas workers.
