30 August to 2 September – back to Arisaig

It’s nice to have an accurate weather forecast when planning a sailing trip, however it’s frustrating when the forecast suggests a few days’ delay would be in order but our train tickets and railcards are just about to expire and B&B bookings have been made.  So we arrived by train as planned, had a wet trip to the boat and then spent Saturday and Sunday bouncing about in too much wind – from the West, which is the most exposed direction.  Having run the water down before we left the boat we started to get very economical and did not wash ourselves or the dishes.  We found that the pulpit had been bent back a bit – presumably some big boat had run into it – shame we don’t have a sharp anchor hanging over the bow!  It appeared to be serviceable and we could not find other damage, so re-tensioned the guardrail wires.

On Monday we took the bus to Mallaig and bought smoked fish and monkfish tail.  We also visited the co-op as it has a much better stock than the little shop in Arisaig.  This was a very wet day, but not too windy for sailing – if the weather was the same tomorrow we might be able to go to Eigg.
