Saturday 7 September 2013 – Rum

The sea looked quite disturbed outside the loch, with plenty of white horses, but we seemed to be in good shelter with the wind from NE.  The only problem being that it was forecast to veer to SE, for which we would be more exposed.  Getting ashore we were surprised to hear that the morning ferry from Mallaig and the Sheerwater from Arisaig had both been cancelled.

Castle tour then tea at the community centre.  We then went back to the boat for an early supper.  Unfortunately Pam took a tumble when carrying the dinghy over the rocks and bashed her knee, which was then very painful.  However it seemed to recover enough for us to move the boat to the south side of the loch (following a change in the wind).  We soon went ashore again and joined in the guided walk up the mountain in the dark to visit the Manx Shearwaters at their burrows.  Pam’s bandaged knee seemed to cope, even though the walk took us almost to the top of Hallival. Back to the boat about 2am.
